Struggling To Find Time For Photography

Although I make my living from photography, I’ve recently struggled to produce new work. It isn’t that I haven’t wanted to head out with my camera. It’s that I’ve been too busy dealing with other aspects of life (I won’t bore you with the details).

In addition, I tore my knee ligaments a couple of months ago, and I still haven’t fully recovered. While I can now walk on the flat without my knee locking up and feeling like my leg will come off, I can’t walk on uneven ground properly. Hopefully, a few more weeks will see things right.

To fill the gap in my life left by photography, I’ve focused what little free time I have on finishing a book I’ve been writing for the past six months and processing photos. Here’s one of the photos from last summer, which I captured using the Olympus EM5 Mark 3.

Surprise View in the Peak District
Surprise View in the Peak District

This is created from two shots stitched together in Adobe Lightroom. The lens was a Panasonic 8-18 at 11mm, and the exposure was 1/40 second at f/8.0 and ISO200. I also used a 3-stop Reverse ND grad filter on the sky. The stitched image was then processed using the Nik Collection 7 in Photoshop.

I hope you like the photo and have a great weekend.

  1. Being a couple of months off 80 and retired I have difficulty in finding time for photography, so it doesn’t get any easier!! All the best for recovery.

Your newsletter always offers interesting ideas. I’ve just downloaded the book and found the stunning image with tech details helpful. I’m just starting to get new grad nd filters , starting with a 3 stop and the reverse grad filter is on the list, so was interested that you used a 3 stop (soft I assume). Please, do you get much use for a 2 stop soft grad filter (not reverse).

Now to find time to study the book, although I find myself doing most of my processing with DXO Photolab 7, Nik and Topaz on Fuji x-t5 files, both raw and jpeg.

    Regards

    Ross
