How Foggy Weather Led to Stunning iPhone Photos

I’m sure you’ve heard the saying that the best camera is the one you have with you. On Boxing Day, this saying was undoubtedly the case for me.

The day after Christmas Day, we headed out onto the moors above home for a walk. Before leaving, I looked out the window to see thick fog. Checking the weather app on my phone confirmed the fog was here to stay for the entire day, so I left my camera on the shelf. What a mistake.

Not long into the climb to the ridge above the village, the fog gave way, revealing a bright sun and clear blue sky. Looking around, I could see we had just emerged from a sea of fog, and I was looking at one of the best cloud inversions I had ever seen—but without a camera. Rather than miss out, I began taking photos with my iPhone.

Here’s one of the first ones after coming through the fog.

After this, we walked along the ridge and moors as if we were on an island. Here’s one of the local war monument on the hill.

And looking into the valley in the other direction.

Then, finally, at the end of the day, when we came off the moors.

Although I’m kicking myself that I didn’t take one of my cameras, I captured some great images using only my iPhone. They even print well.

I hope you have a great weekend.

  1. What I got out of this article is that you did have the right camera with you! As you say, “They even print well.”
