Last week, I mentioned that I had bought a new camera, a Nikon Z7II, and shared a couple of shots from my first outing. I was impressed by the results and managed a couple of shots that I liked. And while I’m still in the honeymoon period with the Nikon, I have been out again.
Here’s a black and white from the viewpoint on Marsden Moor near to where I live.
This was taken with the Nikon 14-30 lens at 16mm. The exposure is 1/13 second at f/13.0 and ISO64.
Although you can’t see it in this small image, the Nikon lens has resolved a surprising amount of detail in the scene. I also found the RAW file was very flexible during editing.
This next photo is a colour image from the rocks on the left of the frame in the above shot.
This was also shot using the Nikon 14-30 at 16mm, but the exposure is 0.6 seconds at f/13.0 and ISO64.
I’ve always struggled to capture shots I’m happy with at this location because the rocks are so dark. It may be a happy coincidence, but I found the Nikon RAW files easier to work with to produce this image than other files in the past. Better still, I like it.
I hope you like the photos and have a great weekend.

I’ve had a Z7 since it first came out and recently got the 7ii. I use it mostly for street photography with the very slim 26 mm. I really like the balance and weight. I should try it on landscape just to see the detail and color depth. Thanks for sharing your comments on the camera and images.

I’m very impressed with it for landscape but would never have considered it for street. Thanks for opening my eyes to new possibilities.
Is it really so much better than even the Fuji XT2? For a reasonable size print, or just love of new equipment and perhaps some processing programs. Sometimes you present files, reprocessed from old files and seem to think they are still good stuff. Basically, have we come a long way, or just an increment of advance?
First found your site in 2012 when you were exploring the Sony RX100 MK1, still a favorite of mine.
It’s not about it being better, it’s about it being different. And yes, it seems quite different to the Fuji, although I may still be in the honeymoon period. I need to get out with it more to find out.
