Christmas and the New Year are almost on us. But before I shut down for a break, I wanted to share a few snowy photos from the past. There are fewer snowy days than ever now, so I like to make the most of them whenever they happen. I think heading out into the snow with a small (or pocket camera) to see what I can snap is a joy.
This photo was taken in the Lake District in January 2016. The snow wasn’t forecast and was a complete surprise.
I captured it using a Canon G7X pocket camera. The lens on the Canon isn’t particularly good, but after running it through Topaz Sharpen AI, it looks great.
This next scene was also taken on the same day, but this time using the Sony RX10.
This was the mark 1 version of the RX10 with the 24-200 lens. It may only be a 1” sensor, but the image quality is great. It’s a lot sharper than the GX7, though I still ran it through Topaz Sharpen AI. I’m always quite shocked at how good the results are.
The final shot is from February 2021 and features the lane at the top of our village. I always head up there when it snows and don’t want to risk a longer journey. The light can sometimes be spectacular, as it was here.
I was using the Panasonic G9 with a Leica 12-60 lens this time.
I’ll sign off now by wishing you a Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.
See you in 2024.
