Just an Apology

Posted on

I am replacing the usual Friday post with an apology for everyone who is having a difficulty logging in to the members area of the Lenscraft website. This isn’t affecting everyone but it is affecting enough people to be a genuine problem.

What’s causing the problem? I don’t honestly know. The membership of the site is managed by a WordPress Plug-in that has a great reputation and that hasn’t changed. In fact Nothing has changed on the site to my knowledge other than a few other plugin’s have updated themselves.

This weekend I will be working hard to trace and correct the problem but I can’t give an estimated time. Please do bear with me. When I switched the website to WordPress it was with the intention of making it easier to maintain, provide more content and a better experience for visitors. I guess learning curve is much steeper than it first appeared.

Update – After several hours with hosting support last night the entire website is a write off and irrecoverable. I am considering options at the moment given even trying to create a fresh installation of WordPress fails. I will post more shortly.

Word Press is sometimes a little squirrelly. Many Artists and Photographers like the Google Blogger System.
It integrates better with Browsers and Email Servers.
Kirk Tuck switched to BlogSpot.com and it seems less problematic.

Thanks but I am reluctant to switch platforms again. I have a huge amount invested in the Lenscraft website and before this crash it was working very well. I am still trying to recover the situation.

You probably could hire a college computer science major Nerd for very little and ease the pain. I enjoy the photography and hate to lose time on fixing websites and computers. Thanks for all you do for us. Best Wishes,

Yes, I am on the lookout for a Woedpress expert who understands PHP programming and security. Whilst with a little brushing up I could probably sort out most things myself I would rather be taking photographs.

I am so sorry you are having such a problem. What a disaster for you after all your hard work setting up the site. I have often been frustrated at the log in stage of the website and have had to change passwords several times. Also, kept on getting messages about enabling cookies (when they were already enabled). I’ve always persisted because your members’ area is so informative. Just recently went and checked out your Topaz videos (which were very clear and useful). I have 2 WordPress sites and they work fine. I do hope you are able to recover everything and are up and running again soon.
    Best wishes, Janet

      Thanks Janet,
I am getting nearer to fixing the problem. I have managed to recover part of the site now. Fingers crossed for the rest.

I’m a fan of your site, and I’m also a developer and a core contributor to WordPress — I don’t consult but if you need some assistance I might be able to help, I hate to hear you’re having so much difficulty! Please get in touch so we can talk further; I’ve posted my email in the comment data here.

Thank you. That’s much appreciated. Having someone who might be able to point me in the right direction wouldd be helpful.
