This is a very nice image, Robin. Remembers me some classical pictures by Ansel Adams and the f64 group. Actually, I never succeeded to fully reproduce with my digital camera what I could obtain twenty years ago with a roll of Pan F and an orange filter. I guess that the magic of true BW was that the colored filters not only controlled contrast and luminances, but also affected, and allowed me to control, the haze. I tried using yellow and orange filters on my digital camera, but they degrade the overall result.
Thanks Andrea. That’s high praise indeed. I agree about the filters as well. I have seen people write that you can improve digital Black and White using coloured filters but I haven’t found that. Much better to capture a full colour spectrum and then apply the filter digitally. I also agree that its hard to beat film and filters.
