As an existing user I receive a free upgrade and wish more software companies would follow this model. I have been playing around a little with a Beta version and I’m quite impressed. Take a look at the following comparison – be sure to click the image to see the enlargement. This is a section of an image viewed at 100% magnification and was shot with a Sony RX10 at ISO640. The top image is unfiltered whilst the lower one has been processed using DeNoise.
I’m going to investigate this further once the full version is out tomorrow.

I think I’m going to be busy over the next few weeks. There is quite a glut of new software being released. I do like the new Topaz interface and the stand alone option. Nice touch.
Wow, and again you seem to come up with something that has my interest too at the moment! I recently bought this peanut jar holder, and was so enthousiastic about the design that I contacted the manufacturer, telling them I would love to have my whole garden full of their various products: would they be interested in a deal: some of my bird shots, of birds visiting their products, in exchange for some of their products. They were so enthousiastic, I got a giant box of their products. And then the stress began, I don’t do much photoshopping, I only have a small laptop, Faststone is the only software I can use on it, and still see what I’m doing, and I need to get rid of the noise I get from having to shoot extremely fast moving subjects at a higher ISO. So I ended up at Topaz, realizing that I need a bigger screen now:-)
I bought De noise and hated it, totally screwed up my images – the initial look was not too bad but was not able to re open in Lightroom and file sizes had shrunk. I have to go back to my second slot SDHC and re import. Best part of the software was the prompt refund – I will stick with Topaz and Lightroom.
Wow. I haven’t come across anything like that in the past. That’s really odd. Good that they processed your refund quickly though.
Quite frankly, I prefer the first image!
Each to their own. To my eyes it suffers from Luminance and Colour noise and the greens appear false.
In what way is Denoise better than the noise reduction available in Lightroom or Photoshop? I downloaded both images and ran them through Photoshop/Adobe Camera Raw’s detail (sharpening and denoise) filter. I got what to me look like very similar results to your Denoise-d image. I believe the denoise filter in Lightroom is the same as in ACR, so why pay for an additional piece of software? OK, I’m working on relatively low-def jpgs, but ….
Hi Martin, this depends on how you define better. DeNoise has some productivity features in it such as noise profiles and batch processing. I also think it’s better than Lightroom at removing very high ISO noise. The example I used wasn’t really a problem but there was a lot of fine detail that could have been lost. Which is the best noise reduction package is also affected by your camera. I find that Lightroom does a great job with my Sony images but with the Micro 43 cameras it can leave traces of noise in the image that become exaggerated when processing with filters such as Nik. If I then try a second pass with Lightroom it doesn’t clean up the problem where tools such as DeNoise and Neat Image can cope with it. I tend to use Lightroom for RAW noise removal at low ISO. Up to about ISO800 I will use Nik. For higher ISO I like DeNoise. For noise reduction post processing (where I realise I didn’t do a good job) I tend to use Neat Image. DeNoise and Neat Image are also great if you want to remove film noise from scans. Sorry I haven’t given a very definitive answer but I like to have a few tools available to me if I find something isn’t working well.
Just realised this was Topaz in this discussion…. I was talking about Franzis denoise… avoid.
I’m very pleased you pointed this out. I was just about to try the Franzis denoise out. I think I will give it a miss now.
